Wixom started in 1831 as a farming settlement called Sibley’s Corners, named for Alonzo Sibley, who bought the first land here at just 20 years old. The railroad later turned it into one of Michigan’s busiest grain-handling points, and the name eventually changed to Wixom.
Then 1957 changed everything. In a single year Wixom became a city, I-96 opened, and Ford started up its Wixom Assembly Plant.
